ICON Builders Donates Computers to Apartment Community
ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA (July 30, 2002) - In its on-going charitable endeavors, ICON Builders has donated four computers to Rowland Heights Apartments in an effort to see that the children have systems available for their use. Rowland Heights Apartments is a low-income housing community with assistance provided through federal tax credits and HUD and is owned by Rowland Heights Preservation Partners. ICON purchased the computer hardware/software and Eric Lewis of Lewis Computer Systems donated his time and labor to build the units. Now that the new systems are in place, Jamboree Housing, a non-profit organization and General Partner who provides social services to the apartment community, can include computer training in their services.
"Not all families are able to offer their children an at-home computer," states ICON Builders President, Allen Sands. "This way the kids will be able to have the next best thing by having the computers available in the recently created computer center located where they live." Having been the general contractor for the substantial rehabilitation of the apartment project two years ago and instrumental in creating the new computer center, Allen was able to see first hand what he could do to help. "The need was obvious and the smiles on the kids' faces make it all worthwhile," said Sands.
Making kids smile is a goal close to Sands heart. Last fall Sands and his entire staff were on hand the first day of school to distribute backpacks to every student at the Thomas J. Pappas School for the homeless in Phoenix and experience the fun. He adds, "I will never forget the joy when we handed each of them a backpack of their very own."
